Therapy, stress and burnout: what psychology works on
Stress is the organism’s response to a demand; burnout is a state of exhaustion tied specifically to chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed, recognised as an occupational phenomenon by the World Health Organization.

Burnout has an address: working conditions. Treating it as an individual failure of resilience is the most common error — and the most costly for someone already exhausted, because it adds guilt to the picture.
That does not make psychological support useless; it defines what it does. It sustains the person and helps them decide, but it does not by itself change the hours, the pressure or the management.
