What is online therapy?

Short answer

Online therapy is psychological care delivered remotely, usually by video call. In Brazil the practice is regulated by the Federal Council of Psychology, and the psychologist must hold a prior registration on the e-Psi portal to work this way.

How to check the professional is cleared for it

The e-Psi registry is public and searchable at e-psi.cfp.org.br. On IAURA, a psychologist who offers online sessions provides the address of their own registry entry, which is displayed on the profile for anyone to check.

The check takes under a minute and is the most objective verification available from the outside.

What changes compared to in-person work

The frame is the same: same length, same confidentiality, same professional responsibility. What changes is logistics — and the main practical concern becomes yours: a place where you can talk without being overheard.

Not every situation suits remote care. That judgement belongs to the professional, who should say so when the format does not fit.

Frequently asked questions

Can I see a Brazilian psychologist from abroad?
Online care makes it possible, and many professionals work with Brazilians living abroad. Whether it suits your situation is a clinical judgement made with the professional.
Do I need a special app?
The professional chooses the tool. IAURA does not host sessions: contact is direct with the psychologist, who tells you how the session happens.

This entry is informative and does not replace professional assessment. IAURA is a directory: it does not provide care and does not diagnose.
