Psychologists for LGBTQIA+ people
There is no therapy specific to sexual orientation or gender identity. What changes is the professional: finding someone who does not treat your existence as the problem to be solved spares you work that should never have been yours.
No psychologist has been published under this selection yet — the directory is just starting.

Brazil’s Federal Council of Psychology forbids psychologists from any action favouring the pathologisation of sexual orientations, and there is a specific resolution on practice with transgender and travesti people. "Conversion therapy" is not a choice of approach: it is an ethical violation.
If a professional proposes anything of the sort, it can be reported to the Regional Council of Psychology for their region.
What tends to matter in the search
Not having to explain the basics, being called by the correct name, and being able to talk about family, work or health without everything being reduced to identity.
IAURA displays who DECLARED they work with this group. It checks professional registration, not attitude — that you assess in conversation.
Frequently asked questions
- Do I need to look for an LGBTQIA+ professional?
- Not necessarily. What usually matters is the professional’s stance, and that cannot be deduced from their identity. Asking in the first conversation is legitimate.
This text is informative and does not replace professional assessment. IAURA publishes profiles: the psychologist is the one who provides and is responsible for the service. The labels on this page are declared by the professional, not verified by IAURA.
