Can a psychologist register as MEI in Brazil?

Short answer

No. MEI β€” the Brazilian microentrepreneur regime β€” does not admit occupations from regulated professions, and psychology is regulated, with its own council. The usual routes are working as self-employed (individual) or opening a company.

The two common routes

As self-employed, fees are received in your own name, with the social security and income tax treatment the law provides for that case, and your own receipt.

As a company, you open a psychology services entity and issue invoices. That usually enters the picture as volume grows, or when the client requires an invoice.

What this text does not do

This is not tax advice, and the answer depends on your revenue, your municipality and your case. An accountant is who answers it responsibly.

Beyond tax, registering a company with the Regional Council has its own rules. Confirm with your CRP.

Frequently asked questions

But I know a psychologist who opened an MEI.
Opening one by mistake is possible; staying compliant is not. The occupation must be on the permitted list, and regulated professions are not. An accountant sorts out the correct regime.
Do I need a company to appear on IAURA?
No. The directory requires an active CRP registration. How you organise yourself fiscally is yours and does not appear on the profile.

This entry is informative and does not replace professional assessment. IAURA is a directory: it does not provide care and does not diagnose.
